The City of Greater Sudbury is required by law to review and update its Official Plan (OP) every five years.
The OP review was initiated earlier this year and provides an important opportunity to ensure that it reflects and balances local interests with provincial regulation.
The OP review will explore and propose land use policy solutions for the following areas:
- Population and employment projections for next 20 years
- Availability of developer-ready land
- Transportation needs for next 20 years
- Environmental sustainability of our lakes
- Water and waste-water development
In 2007, when the city last reviewed the OP, it was estimated that the number of people living in the city would grow to 169,579 by 2021.
