Tourism – opposition to re-drawing of boundaries for tourism areas (June 2009)

The Advocacy Committee endorsed the recommendations put forth by the city of Greater
Sudbury’s Tourism, Culture and Marketing Department that Northern Ontario is on the right track with the new five-year northern strategy and that the continued leadership of the OTMPC northern program and additional resources will effectively deliver marketing and product development programs and maximize the potential growth the strategy represents. Furthermore, the chamber agreed that now is not the time to introduce new levels of competition within Northern Ontario by creating new regional barriers. We must work as one and support this important Northern Ontario industry.

This was in response to the Ministry of Tourism’s desire to implement the recommendations found in the document “Discovering Ontario – A Report on the Future of Tourism.”
