Major Immigration Announcements from the Federal Government

Dear Chamber members,

The Honourable Marc Miller, Federal Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship was in Sudbury to announce that the Rural Northern Immigration Pilot Project is going to be turned into a permanent program!

The Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce has tirelessly advocated for RNIP to become a permanent program. This program consistently brings qualified workers into our community, which leads to community prosperity and growth for everyone.

Minister Miller also announced two new programs called the Rural Community Immigration Pilot, and the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot, which will both launch in Fall 2024. These programs will give the government leeway while they develop RNIP into a permanent program.

Miller made the announcement in Sudbury at Spectrum Group‘s location, where they were hosted by Geoff Hatton, President and CEO of Spectrum Group and Chair of our Board of Directors. Miller said:

“Rural and northern communities face unique economic and demographic challenges. However, through the RNIP, rural communities have been able to attract and retain skilled workers that they’ve needed for years to ensure their economic growth. That is why we will make RNIP a permanent program, and why we are introducing these two new pilot programs. We’ll continue to work closely with these communities, as we work to connect businesses with the skilled workers they need to thrive.”

Miller was joined by Marc G. Serré, MP for Nickel Belt and Parliamentary Secretary, and Viviane Lapointe, MP for Sudbury.
