Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce Announces 2015-2016 Board of Directors
Chamber’s new Board officially sworn-in
(Greater Sudbury, July 8, 2015) The chamber is pleased to present its new Board of Directors for 2015-2016. This year’s ballot contained the names of fourteen candidates vying for six vacancies on the Board. The successful candidates include: André Dumais (Black Rock Engineering), Abbas Homayed (Laurentian Publishing), Karen Hourtovenko (LifeZone Consulting), Michael Macnamara (Conroy Trebb Scott Hurtubise), Tracy Nutt (ServiceMaster of Sudbury), and Kelly Scott (Barrydowne Paint). Each director will serve a two-year term.
These newly elected directors will join returning directors David Boyce (RBC Dominion Securities), Anna Frattini (BESTECH), Daniel Giroux (Collège Boréal), Geoff Jeffery (Weaver Simmons), Alyson Laking (Laking Toyota), and Joel Montgomery (Vale) who are serving the second year of their two-year term.
Additionally, four appointed directors were selected by the elected directors. The appointed directors include Joseph Mansourian (OvertheAtlantic.com), Wallace Gillard (WAT Supplies), Sheri Tomchick (Plan A Health Care Staffing Solutions & StaffStat) and Kevin McAuley (Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations, a Glencore Company).
The chamber also recently elected its Executive Council. The members include: Karen Hourtovenko (Chair of the Board), Tracy Nutt (First Vice Chair), Michael Macnamara (Second Vice Chair), Alyson Laking (Treasurer), Geoff Jeffery (Immediate Past Chair) and Debbi Nicholson (Ex-Officio, President & CEO).
The new directors and Chair of the Board have officially begun their term in office as of July 7th following a swearing-in ceremony, officiated by Madam Justice Patricia Hennessy.
“This year, with our new Strategic Plan 2015-2017 as our guide post, we are looking at how we can take the chamber to the next level in terms of advocacy, community development, and member relations. I really believe this dynamic group of people will lead the way in helping us embrace these goals,” says Debbi Nicholson, President & CEO of the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce. “Each director brings their own set of expertise and insight and are leaders in the community invested in helping Greater Sudbury grow,” adds Nicholson.
“The chamber has a lot of exciting new initiatives coming down the pipeline. I am fortunate to have an excellent group of directors with a wide range of skills, representing a cross-section of economic sectors, to lead the way. I am looking forward to the year ahead and to embracing new and creative ways to enhance economic and community prosperity in the city,” said Karen Hourtovenko, Chair of the Board.
The GSCC is governed by a 16-member volunteer Board of Directors. Each member of the Board volunteers their expertise, time and knowledge, reflecting a broad cross-section of the local business community. The Board consists of elected directors, serving 2-year terms and appointed directors, serving 1-year terms. A term runs from July 1 to June 30 of the following year.
