Policy Priorities
Through our advocacy committee and member-driven task forces, the Chamber advocates for our members and helps ensure their voices are heard by decision-makers at all levels of government.
Advocacy Committee
Our Advocacy Committee unites business leaders to address municipal, provincial and federal policy issues. Its role is to identify barriers and champion solutions to drive economic growth across Greater Sudbury.
Under this committee are three member-led task forces:
Policy Resolutions
While much of our advocacy is at the municipal level, we also develop policy resolutions for issues of provincial or national importance and submit them to either the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) or Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CCC).
Resolutions are debated at the respective Annual General Meeting and, if approved by the membership, become official policy of the OCC or CCC, who then lobby senior levels of government. Resolutions stay on the books for three years.
Our current OCC policy resolutions:
- Improving Access to Transportation Options in Rural and Northern Ontario Through Provincial Framework for Ride Sharing Services (page 72)
- Investing in Northern Ontario’s Highway Infrastructure (page 74)
- Create and Implement a Provincial Strategy to Address Homelessness, Mental Health and Addictions (page 206)
- Lack of Access to, and Affordability of, Childcare Hurts Ontario Businesses (page 170)
Our current CCC policy resolutions:
- From Ore to Opportunity: Building Canada’s Critical Minerals Advantage
- Make the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot Permanent (note: this program is closed and has been replaced by the Rural Community Immigration Pilot under federal policy)
Sunsetting this year:
- Critical Minerals: Critical for Everything from Batteries to National Security (this was replaced by ‘From Ore to Opportunity’, above)
