Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce and Partners Host Downtown Student Fest

As thousands of students begin a new school year in our community, the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce is bringing together local businesses, community organizations, post-secondary institutions and community partners for Downtown Student Fest, a celebration designed to help them discover everything about their new home.

Taking place Friday, September 18 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Park, the free event will connect post-secondary students with local services, organizations and opportunities while showcasing the many ways to get involved in the community.

"Students are an important part of Greater Sudbury's community and future workforce," said Joanne LeBreton, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce. "This event is about helping them feel welcome and creating opportunities to connect with the people, services and experiences that make Greater Sudbury a great place to live. The stronger their connection to our community, the more likely they are to see a future for themselves here."

In planning the event, the Chamber worked closely with several post-secondary institutions to invite students and help shape an event that is relevant, accessible and valuable for those beginning or continuing their academic journey in the community.

Held alongside the Sudbury Wolves’ Howlapalooza festivities that begin at 2 p.m., and leading into the 7 p.m. home opener, Downtown Student Fest will feature exhibitors from across the community, giveaways, prizes, entertainment and remarks from Mayor Paul Lefebvre. Participating organizations will showcase volunteer opportunities, recreation programs, community services and employment resources available throughout Greater Sudbury.

The Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce thanks the Downtown Sudbury BIA and the City of Greater Sudbury for their in-kind support, as well as Don's Pizza, Uride and Costco, for helping make the event possible.

Students from all local post-secondary institutions are welcome to attend.
