MOVED THAT Joanna Horne represent the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce on
the SDHU’s smoke-free working group….CARRIED.
Board of Directors’ meeting October 16, 2002
MOVED THAT the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce adopt the following
position:
There is no doubt that all parties understand the harmful effects of tobacco smoke in any
environment. As well, the chamber of commerce cannot argue with the obvious health
risks associated with smoking and second-hand smoke. Neither can we ignore the
obvious impact the proposed by-law will have on certain businesses in the City of Greater
Sudbury. Nevertheless, we urge City Council to adopt a smoke-free by-law without
exception to create a level playing field for all businesses….CARRIED.

MOVED THAT the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce not support CABR
(Citizens Against By-Law Reform) in its discussions with the City of Greater Sudbury
regarding the Smoking By-Law….CARRIED.
