In early February 2009, a member of the chamber raised concerns regarding non-local auctioneers. A city policy relating to non-local vendors operating in the city is currently in place for these sorts of circumstances.

The current bylaw requires an outside vendor to apply for a special sales permit which expires 30 days after date of issue; the purchaser is then allowed to host the sales event.

The chamber believes that a de-regulated environment would allow businesses in the city to compete fairly and openly for customers.
