Chamber inducts new Chair and Board of Directors for the 2020-2021 year

GREATER SUDBURY, July 8, 2020 – On Tuesday, July 7, 2020 the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce inducted its 2020-2021 Board of Directors. The new directors and Chair of the Board were inducted in a ceremony officiated by Madam Justice Patricia Hennessy.

The chamber held its annual Board elections in spring 2020, with 16 candidates vying for six open seats on the Board. The successful candidates include: Kate Bowman (Centreline Architecture); Cora DeMarco (Technica Mining); Karen Hastie (AKFIT Fitness Specialty Store); Joanna LeBreton (Baker Tilly SNT); Neil Milner; and Wendy Watson, (Greater Sudbury Utilities). Each elected director will serve a two-year term.

The elected directors are joined by returning directors serving the second year of their two-year term: Mike Andrighetti (Ethier Sand & Gravel Limited); Geoffrey Hatton (Spectrum Telecom Group); Michael Macnamara (Desmarais, Keenan LLP); Kristine Morrissey (Cambrian College); Tracy Nutt (Service Master of Sudbury/Build North Construction); and Mike Zanini (Vale Canada Ltd.).

Additionally, the elected directors selected four appointed directors to join them for one-year terms each: Anthony Davis (Greater Sudbury Plumbing and Heating); Neil Petrin (RBC Dominion Securities); Shayne Smith (Milman Industries Inc.); and Jennifer Taback (Design de Plume). Bryan Welsh (DMC Mining) will serve a one-year term as Immediate Past Chair. 

The chamber also elected its new Executive Council. The Executive Council will serve a one-year term: Cora DeMarco (Chair of the Board); Neil Milner (First Vice Chair); Shayne Smith (Second Vice Chair); Mike Andrighetti (Treasurer); Bryan Welsh (Immediate Past Chair); and Debbi Nicholson (President & CEO, ex-officio).

“I am eager to lead the chamber’s Board of Directors in my new role as Chair, and I look forward to working closely with the Board and chamber staff over the next year to support our business community’s recovery from COVID-19,” said Cora DeMarco, Chair of the Board of Directors. “I want to thank Bryan Welsh, our Immediate Past Chair, for his excellent leadership over the past year, and am grateful he will stay on the Board for another year to provide support.”

The Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce is governed by a 17-member volunteer Board of Directors. Each member of the Board volunteers their expertise, time and knowledge, reflecting a broad cross-section of the local business community. The Board consists of elected directors, serving two-year terms, and appointed directors, serving one-year terms, running from July 1 to June 30 of the following year.
