GREATER SUDBURY, October 30, 2018 – Join the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, November 6th, from 12:00-2:00 pm as they host Peter Xavier, Vice President, Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations, A Glencore Company. Peter will provide an overview on the Nickel Business in Sudbury and in particular will discuss exploration, mining, milling and smelting operations in the Sudbury basin.

Hear the latest update on the development of the Onaping Depth Project at Craig Mine and how it represents a transformation from a traditional underground mine to a modern ultra-deep mine with battery electric equipment. Peter will also present the innovation framework highlighting key enablers to a sustainable future. When completed, Onaping Depth will provide a new source of nickel feed for the Sudbury Smelter and help sustain Glencore’s Sudbury Operations and support economic development within the Sudbury basin.

About Peter Xavier:

Peter Xavier is Vice President of Glencore’s Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations (Sudbury INO).

Previously, Peter was Director of Nickel Rim South Mine for Sudbury INO where he had the overall accountability for the continued delivery of operational excellence at this mine which became an operation in 2010. Peter’s other previous key positions prior to being appointed Mine Director were Thayer Lindsley Mine Manager and Strathcona Mill Manager.

A graduate of Laurentian University’s Mining Engineering program, Peter is currently Vice Chair on the Board of the Ontario Mining Association (OMA), and a Board member of the Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI) and the Ultra Deep Mining Network (UDMN). He is also on the Board of Governors at Laurentian University. Peter is also a Warden of Camp 22 which oversees the engineering oath and iron ring ceremony. He was previously a Board member of the Canadian Institute of Mining (CIM) – Sudbury Chapter and Sudbury Planning Chair for the Emerging Leaders Dialogue, a Duke of Edinburgh Conference.
