Job Description: ELIGIBILITY: This is a one-year internship contract funded by the NOHFC. The successful candidate must meet all of the eligibility requirements of the NOHFC Program.

REPORTS TO: Business Development Manager (BDM)

HOURS OF WORK: The hours of work for this position are from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

SALARY: $33,150.00/year. This one-year contract, full-time position, is supported by NOHFC.


College diploma or university degree with emphasis on graphic design and marketing. The intern must have experience with InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator software. The intern will have a thorough knowledge of computer applications including Windows and XP, Microsoft Office Suite.


Design Work: The intern will design materials as set out by the BDM. These materials will be developed in alignment with the creative strategies and branding guidelines established by the chamber and may include event flyers, promotion pieces, programmes, ad design, infographics, social media graphics, etc. The successful candidate will be familiar with design software such as InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

Social Media: Create/post/share information about the chamber’s, or members’, activities using a variety of social media platforms on a regular basis. All posts must be pre-approved by the BDM prior to posting. Conduct analysis and report on key social media metrics on a weekly/monthly basis.

Reception/Events/Marketing: The Graphic Design & Administrative Assistant Intern will be the main point of contact with visitors attending and calling the chamber office. As such, the intern will be responsible for all reception duties, greeting visitors, administering COVID-19 protocols, answering the telephone, meeting room set-up and clean-up, filing, photocopying, etc. The successful candidate will also assist with the planning and execution of chamber events following instructions from the BMD or the Events Coordinator. Additionally, the intern will work with the BDM in the planning and execution of marketing promotion initiatives to increase the awareness of the chambers, its member perks mobile app, advocacy work, events, etc.

Other: Any other duties as may be assigned.


Language Skills: The intern will have excellent writing skills with attention to proper spelling and grammar. They will have the ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from members and the general public; to write speaking notes and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format; and the ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, members, or chamber committees. Bilingualism (English – French) is an asset.

Mathematical Skills: The successful candidate will have the ability to work with mathematical concepts necessary in a business setting as well as to read, analyze, and interpret financial and other reports.

Reasoning Ability: The intern will have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Other: Accurate typing and word processing skills, highly developed time management and multi-tasking skills, ability to cope with pressure, changing priorities and strict deadlines. The ability to prioritise, to plan and organize, and to problem solve at an effective level.

Other Responsibilities: The intern will be required to contribute to a safe and healthy team environment that is conducive to high morale and satisfactory interaction between and among all chamber employees.

  • Analyze and interpret personal performance, implementing corrective action on any areas not meeting standards on a regular basis as laid out by the BDM.
  • Participate in ongoing training and/or performance improvement plans as required.
  • Safe-guard and maximize the use of chamber assets.
  • Maintain a neat and tidy work area at all times.
  • Participate actively in weekly staff meetings.
  • A high standard of personal presentation and grooming is required.
  • The incumbent may be expected to use their personal vehicle in the course of performing their duties for which they will be reimbursed for actual kilometres driven upon receipt of expense claim. The current rate of compensation for mileage is 54 cents/km.
