(November 2016) The Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, released new data in a report published today. The report, Closing the Tourism Gap: Creating a Long-Term Advantage for Ontario, identifies a number of challenges faced by tourism operators and the broader tourism industry in Ontario, and reveals a significant tourism opportunity gap when compared to international growth rates.

The report found that Ontario has forgone nearly $16 billion in visitor spending between 2006 and 2012 by not keeping up with global growth trends. The report highlights the need for a provincial strategy that includes measurable target to help organize and coordinate tourism activities amongst the diverse group of public and private tourism organizations in Ontario.
