Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce Announces Appointment of New President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Sudbury, Ontario – The Board of Directors of the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce, having conducted an extensive recruitment process, is pleased to announce the appointment of Marie Litalien as the new President & CEO, to replace  Debbi Nicholson who is retiring after a remarkable 45 years at the helm.

“We are very excited to welcome Marie to our highly-respected team in both the Sudbury business community as well as the chamber network across Ontario and Canada, effective July 2, 2024,” said Chair of the Board, Geoffrey Hatton.  “Marie brings extensive experience and a track record of success in engaging and leading teams founded on her extensive qualifications”.  “She is passionate about the chamber and its role to continue the strong voice the chamber has in influencing public policy at all levels of government.  She looks forward to supporting our members, their employees, and other stakeholders,” said Hatton.

Marie is an accomplished professional with a depth of experience in policy, governance, government administration, public relations, and communications, and most recently served as the Director of Communications and Community Engagement at the City of Greater Sudbury.  Her ability to build relationships with key partners highlights her strong networking skills and commitment to fostering partnerships in the business community.  Her accomplishments in budget management demonstrate her financial acumen and ability to effectively allocate resources.  She has a strong history of success and is motivated to take on new challenges and make a significant impact in our community.

“When I think of the chamber, I envision opportunities for every resident of this community… opportunities for jobs, for growth and for a better quality of life,” stated Marie Litalien.  “It is an impressive network of members, staff and partners with a clear, common purpose.  It is truly humbling to reflect on how my experiences have led me to this new place, and I am honoured and excited to be a part of something so impactful and inspiring.”

“Thanks to Debbi’s dedication and tireless work as leader, the chamber has been established as one of the most respected organizations in this community.  I will approach this important role with drive and determination to strengthen that foundation and lead the chamber’s next chapter as we build a stronger, supported business community and, as a result, celebrate continued economic success for Greater Sudbury, Litalien said.”

“We were fortunate to receive applications from many qualified candidates, but Marie’s unique combination of experience, energy, skills, and relationships made her the ideal candidate to assume this role,” stated Geoffrey Hatton.  “She has a strong background in supporting growth, an in depth understanding of advocacy, an innate business acumen and she knows how to effectively connect with members and stakeholders,” Hatton stated.

As Marie settles into her role as the new President & CEO, she will begin reaching out to our members, community partners, and key stakeholders to both introduce herself and to discuss ways the chamber can support their organizations and provide valuable solutions to the issues businesses are currently facing.

Please join us in welcoming Marie as our new President & CEO, as we begin this new chapter.
