Licence Bureau
The Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce is an authorized Licence Bureau Agent for ServiceOntario. Although the Licence Bureau is not staffed by ServiceOntario employees we are still required to adhere to ServiceOntario’s stringent rules and regulations.

Information & Tips
Renewing vehicle plates
What to bring:
- The renewal application or plate number
- Valid Insurance
- Accurate odometer reading
- Fee shown on renewal form
Tips:
- Please be reminded – sticker renewal is due on your birthday, not the end of month
- New in 2004 – Odometer information is mandatory
- New in 2005 – ServiceOntario will not allow us to accept personal cheques; so please bring either cash, a certified cheque, company cheque (with the company name & address printed on it), credit card or debit card
Renewing driver's licence
What to bring:
- Your Driver’s Licence
- The fee indicated on renewal application
- Hats and glasses are NOT permitted in photographs
Temporary ("T") validation (replacement trip permits)
- Allows a vehicle to be operated for a 10-day period (limit of 2 within 365 days)
- Bring your fit Ontario ownership, signed off from the previous owner and completed in the new owners name
- Valid Insurance
- Used vehicle information package or affidavit *(if eligible for a family gift etc)
- Plate portion for plates you wish to attach or you may purchase a set for $20.00
- Vehicle must be transferred to the new owner, pay applicable tax, $15.00 for “T” validation and $20.00 if new plates are required
- Safety Standards Certificate is not yet required
Transferring a vehicle into your name
What to bring:
- Vehicle permit, with the application for transfer on the reverse completed
- Plate permit (if attaching your plate to vehicle)
- Used Vehicle Information Package
- Safety Standards Certificate (if vehicle to be registered as fit)
- Vehicle Emissions Pass Report, if living in Southern Ontario
- Identification
- Payment for retail sales tax, vehicle registration fee and, if required, new licence plates
- Vehicle over 20 years old require an appraisal
- Valid Insurance if plating vehicle
Transferring a vehicle into your name, when the previous owner is deceased & the vehicle is to be received as a “gift”
What to bring:
- Vehicle permit, with the application for transfer on the reverse completed
- Plate permit (if attaching your plate to vehicle)
- If using the vehicle’s existing plates (only a spouse or an off-spring)
- Will have to complete a form for the plate transfer
- The plate sticker will be valid until the deceased’s birthday at which time the new owner will renew the sticker to be valid until their own birthday
- Safety Standards Certificate (if transferred to someone other than the spouse)
- Vehicle Emissions Pass Report, if living in Southern Ontario
- Identification
- The Executor of the Will needs to sign off on the ownership
- Bring in a copy of the Will (if the person is named as the beneficiary and the vehicle is specifically identified)
- Will need to do an affidavit with the Executor present (if will is not presented naming individual as beneficiary and vehicle is not specified)
- Payment for vehicle registration fees and, if required, new licence plates
